Information on Towing Saturn Cars with all Four Wheels on the Ground
TO: Saturn Fixed Operation Managers
Recent Saturn testing has verified that all 1991 and 1992 Saturn vehicles, with either manual or automatic transaxles, may be towed with the front road wheels on the ground at normal vehicle speeds of less than 65 mph (105 km/h) without any range limitations.
Currently, 1991 and 1992 Owner's Handbooks limit towing with front wheels on the ground to a maximum range of 50 miles (80 km) at 35 mph (56 km/h). Customers and local towing services may be informed that the above speed and range limitations no longer apply. All other instructions and limitations as noted in the Owner's Handbook remain unchanged. Transaxle fluid levels must be at the "FULL" mark whenever the vehicle is being towed with the front wheels on the ground.
The removal of the above speed and range limitations also means that Saturn owners may now tow Saturn vehicles with all four wheels on the ground behind a trailer or recreational vehicle, if permitted by the towing vehicle's manufacturer. Saturn does not recommend or warn against any specific design or manufacturer of towing equipment.
IMPORTANT:
When towing a Saturn vehicle forward with all four wheels on the ground, the ignition key must be in the accessory (ACC) position with all accessories turned off and the transaxle in Neutral.
