Cage Nut Replacement (Front Seat Outer)
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the front seats and the carpet from the vehicle. Refer to Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement (Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement).
Important: Before performing any drilling or welding operations, take the necessary precautions to ensure that the vehicle's interior will not be damaged by sparks or other debris.
2. Using an 8 mm (5/16 in) drill bit, drill out the 2 spot-welds retaining the cage nut to the seat bracket.
3. Using a cutoff wheel, make three 25 mm (1 in) cuts as shown in the illustration.
4. Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, pry up the bottom edge of the flap.
5. Remove the cage nut.
Installation Procedure
1. Route a flexible wire through the new cage nut. Tie a loop in the wire below the bottom surface of the cage nut ensuring that the loop in the wire is slightly larger than the inside diameter of the nut.
2. Route the wire with the cage nut attached through the cage nut bolt hole in the top of the seat bracket.
3. Push the flap back down to its original position.
4. Tack weld the lower edges of the flap.
5. Pull the cage nut tight against the bottom of the seat bracket ensuring that the cage nut is in its original position.
6. Perform MIG plug welds through the drill holes in the original weld locations.
7. MIG weld all the remaining sections of the flap.
8. Remove the wire from the cage nut and the seat bracket.
9. Grind the welds flush.
10. Prime and paint the welded area.
11. Install the front carpet and seats in the vehicle. Refer to Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement (Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement).
