Blower Motor Resistor: Service and Repair

BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR

REMOVAL




1. Disconnect negative battery cable.




2. Open glove compartment door.
3. Remove glove compartment lamp assembly by pulling on lamp plunger.
4. Disconnect glove compartment lamp wiring harness from glove compartment lamp.




5. Remove right side I/P lower dash insulator retainers.
6. Pull insulator rearward to detach from forward insulator retainers.




7. Remove right side heater outlet assembly retainer and remove outlet.




8. Remove glove compartment door.




9. Remove glove compartment bin fasteners.
10. Slowly remove glove compartment bin tilting bin downward to expose the BCM module residing on top of the glove compartment.
11. Remove BCM module from glove compartment by sliding module out of attaching slots.
12. Remove glove compartment bin.




13. Disconnect recirculation actuator electrical connector.

Automatic Climate Control Vehicles Only:

14. Disconnect aspirator hose and position aside.

CAUTION: BLOWER RESISTOR CARD HAS SHARP EDGES AND MAY BE VERY HOT IF BLOWER WAS USED PRIOR TO SERVICING.




15. Remove blower motor resistor screws.
16. Use electrical harness to pull resistor card out of module.
17. Disconnect blower resistor card from electrical connector.

INSTALLATION




1. Connect blower motor resistor electrical connector to resistor card.
2. Install blower resistor card into slot in module with circuit side facing towards rear of vehicle. It will only fit one way.
3. Install blower motor resistor screws.

Torque:
Blower Motor Resistor Screws: 1 N.m (9 in-lbs)




4. Connect recirculation actuator electrical connector.




5. Install glove compartment bin partially into opening.
6. Secure BCM module to glove compartment bin slots.
7. Route glove compartment lamp wiring harness through lamp opening.
8. Install glove compartment bin to I/P with fasteners.

Torque:
Glove Compartment-to-I/P Fasteners: 2.5 N.m (22 in-lbs)




9. Connect glove compartment lamp wiring harness to glove compartment lamp.
10. Snap lamp into glove compartment bin.




11. Install heater outlet with retainer.




12. Install lower dash insulator with retainers.




13. Install glove compartment door with fasteners.

Torque:
Glove Compartment Door Fasteners: 2 N.m (18 in-lbs)

14. Function glove compartment lamp and glove compartment door to ensure proper operation.
15. Connect negative battery cable.

Torque:
Battery Terminal Bolts: 17 N.m (ft-lbs)
