50. Exhaust Camshaft, Bearing Cap, and Lash Adjuster Installation

EXHAUST CAMSHAFT, FOLLOWER, AND VALVE LASH ADJUSTER (UNIT REPAIR) INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION





1. Install valve lash adjusters into their bores in the cylinder head. Apply lubricant, engine oil supplement to valve lash adjuster.





2. Lubricate the valve tips with engine oil supplement.





IMPORTANT: Used roller followers must be returned to original position on camshaft. If camshaft is being replaced, roller followers actuated by camshaft must also be replaced.

3. Position roller followers on tip of valve stem and on valve lash adjuster. Apply lubricant.





NOTICE: Set crankshaft at 60 degrees Before Top-Dead Center to prevent valve to piston contact.

4. Set exhaust camshaft on top of roller followers in camshaft bearing journals. Lubricate with engine oil supplement.
5. Install camshaft bearing caps in correct order and hand start the camshaft cap bolts.





6. The timing chain sprocket alignment notch on the camshaft should be oriented to the two o'clock position.
7. Tighten camshaft bearing cap bolts in increments of three turns until they are seated.
Torque:
Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolts: 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)
