Ignition Switch: Service and Repair



IGNITION AND START SWITCH REPLACEMENT

Removal Procedure
1. Remove the steering column trim covers. Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement
2. Disconnect the ignition switch harness connector.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the run position.





4. Remove the ignition switch screws.

Important: The ignition switch must be in the run position during removal in order to avoid damage to the ignition switch.

5. Remove the ignition switch from the steering column.

Installation Procedure





Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

1. Install the ignition switch and screws on to the steering column.

Tighten the screws to 2 Nm (17 inch lbs.).

2. Connect the ignition switch harness connector.
3. Install the steering column trim covers.

Important: If the ignition switch is replaced and a learn procedure is not performed, the engine will crank but not start or will start and stall immediately.
