88subaru04

APPLICABILITY: 1988 SUBARU JUSTY 4WD GL VEHICLES

SUBJECT: 4WD SOLENOID HOSE/ALTERNATOR WIRING STAY BRACKET REMOVAL

NUMBER: WZZ-36

DATE: April 25, 1988

Subaru has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1988MY Subaru Justy 4WD GL vehicles that are equipped with a Subaru accessory air conditioning system. The defect may occur when the alternator wiring contacts the 4WD solenoid hose/alternator wiring stay bracket sufficiently to create an electrical short which causes melting and smoke. Should this bracket cause wire chafing on vehicles equipped with an accessory Subaru air conditioning system, an underhood fire could result without prior warning, possibly endangering persons in or near the vehicle.

To prevent this condition from occurring, it is necessary to remove the 4WD solenoid hose/alternator wiring stay bracket on vehicles equipped with a Subaru accessory air conditioning system.
