Engine: Service and Repair
1. Relieve fuel system pressure as follows:
a. Raise and support vehicle.
b. Disconnect fuel pump electrical connector, then lower vehicle.
c. Start engine. After engine stalls, crank for approximately five seconds, then turn ignition off.
d. Reconnect fuel pump electrical connector.
2. Drain cooling system, then disconnect ground cable from battery and engine.
3. Disconnect all hoses, electrical connections and cables that will interfere with engine removal.
4. Disconnect front exhaust pipes as required.
5. Remove air intake system.
6. Discharge a/c system, then disconnect flexible hoses and position aside.
7. Disconnect heater hoses, then remove radiator assembly.
8. On automatic transmission equipped vehicles, remove flex plate to torque converter attaching bolts.
9. On all vehicles, remove buffer rod attachments and buffer rod from engine.
10. Disconnect engine mount from front crossmember, then remove lower transmission to engine attaching nuts.
11. Support engine with suitable hoist.
12. Support transmission with suitable jack, then remove upper transmission to engine attaching bolts.
13. Separate engine from transmission, then lift and remove from vehicle.
14. Reverse procedure to install. Torque engine mount attaching nuts to 28-50 ft.lbs., buffer rod to engine attaching nut to 33-40 ft.lbs., and engine to transmission attaching nuts and bolts to 34-40 ft.lbs.
