Clicking Noise From the Transmission
95MT 4EAT VEHICLES WITH A CLICKING NOISE FROM THE TRANSMISSIONShould you encounter a customer complaint of a light clicking sound in third gear between 2000-3000 RPM, determine whether the noise is coming from inside the transmission. If it is, the cause may be the low/reverse clutch pack steel driven plates and the fiber drive plates rattling inside the case. This noise may be a result of the steel plate thickness having been reduced from 2 mm to 1.6 mm. During the manufacturing process, the steel plates could become wavy. In third gear the low/reverse clutch is turning freely (not engaged) and the fiber plates can hit the high spots on the steel plates resulting in the noise. There are no functional problems with these parts, but, in a few cases, a particularly sensitive customer may object to the sound.
