Transmission/Transaxle Removal and Installation

1. Raise and support hood, then disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air intake duct.
3. Disconnect oxygen sensor and transmission harness connectors, then the transmission ground terminal.
4. Disconnect hill holder and speedometer cables.
5. Remove starter, then the pitching stopper.
6. Separate torque converter from driveplate as follows:
a. Remove service hole plug.
b. Using crankshaft pulley wrench part No. 499977000 or equivalent, remove torque converter to driveplate bolts.
7. Remove fluid level gauge, then the transmission connector holder bracket.
8. Install engine support assembly part No. 927670000 or equivalent.
9. Remove upper right side engine to transmission bolt, then raise and support vehicle.
10. Remove exhaust system, then drain transmission.
11. Disconnect transmission cooler hoses from pipes.
12. Remove front cover of rear differential mount, then separate propeller shaft from rear differential. Remove center bearing mounting bolts, then remove propeller shaft from transmission.
13. Remove shift selector cable, then the stabilizer clamp to crossmember mounting bolts.
14. Disconnect transverse links from steering knuckle, then the driveshaft from each side of transmission.
15. Remove lower side transmission to engine mounting bolts, then support transmission with transmission jack.
16. Place transmission jack under transmission, then remove rear crossmember to body bolts.
17. Remove transmission from vehicle. Move transmission and torque converter as a unit away from engine.
18. Reverse procedure to install.
