Service Procedure
This Service Program will involve inspection of both the left and right second row seat hinge lot numbers to determine if replacement is necessary.Inspection Procedure
The inspection process will determine if the left and/or right second row seatback hinges are within the affected "Lot Code" range. The lot code is stamped on the seat hinge as illustrated in step (2) below.
^ Parts manufactured on or between November 14, 2005 and November 30, 2005 (5Y14~5Y30) require seatback frame replacement.
^ Parts manufactured prior to November 14, 2005 or after November 30, 2005 do not require replacement.
1) Remove the Back Board Cover:
^ Fold down Seat Back
^ Remove backrest back board by pulling upward on the bottom of the cover to release the retaining hooks
2) Check for Lot # of Seat Hinge:
^ Flip up Trim cover and Plastic plate
^ See side rim of recliner and check lot #
3) How to read the Lot # of the Seat Hinge:
4) If the seat checked is not from the target LOT # (5Y14~5Y30), install in the reverse order of removal. DO NOT reuse the original back board. The retaining clips have been compromised and the cover must be replaced.
5) If the seat checked has the target LOT # (5Y14~5Y3O), the seatback frame will require replacement. Refer to the following service procedures for replacement. If only one of the seats is within the target lot#~ then only replace that seat. It is not necessary to replace the LH and RH as a set.
Note:
Do not install new back boards on seats requiring seatback frame replacement until repairs are completed.
Replacement Procedure
Second-Row Seats
A: SEAT REMOVAL
1. LH&CTR SEAT (Note: It is necessary to remove the center seat and the left seat together.)
1) Tilt the backrest forward, and move the seat forward.
2) Remove the slide rail cover at the rear side and remove the two seat frame attaching bolts. (Slide rail bolts)
3) Move the seat to the rear most position.
4) Remove the slide rail cover at the front side, and remove the two seat frame attaching bolts. (Slide rail bolts)
5) Remove the seat from vehicle.
2. RH SEAT
1) Tilt the backrest forward, and move the seat forward.
2) Remove the slide rail cover at the rear side and remove the two seat frame attaching bolts. (Slide rail bolts)
3) Move the seat to the rear most position.
4) Remove the slide rail cover at the front side and remove the two seat frame attaching bolts. (Slide rail bolts)
5) Remove the seat from vehicle.
B: SEAT DISASSEMBLY
1. LH SEAT
1) Remove the headrest by removing the headrest snap retainer clip and headrest.
2) Remove the inner hinge cover by removing the retaining screw on inner cover and pulling the side cover apart from the recliner cover and then unhook from the front of the seat frame. The removal process will break the clips of{ do not reuse the original trim covers. New trim covers are provided in Trim Cover Kit # 3.
3) Remove the outer hinge cover by pulling the side cover apart from the recliner cover and then unhook from the front of the seat frame. The removal process will break the clips of{ do not reuse the original trim covers. New trim covers are provided in Trim Cover Kit # 3.
4) Remove the Center Seat by removing the two reclining hinge bolts, then remove the seat backrest by rotating the center back approx. 45 degrees forward until the pin comes out of the bracket on the LH back assembly.
5) Remove the Left Side Seat by removing the two reclining hinge bolts on each of the left and right sides, then remove the seat backrest.
6) Cut and remove the wire ties that secure the cable to the frame and foam.
7) Remove the two screws securing the backrest reclining lever.
8) Disconnect the cable connected to the recliner lever; then remove the lever assembly.
9) Remove the striker cap and striker. (T-50 Torx Bit)
10) Remove the two hog rings from the top rear of the seatback.
11) Remove the headrest lock bushings.
NOTE:
Push outward from inside of the seat to remove bushings.
12) Unfasten the velcro fasteners on the rear of the bottom rear of the seatback.
13) Unhook the 5 J-channel fasteners.
14) Roll the bottom corners of the trim over and remove the 2 hog rings securing the bottom of the trim to the back foam.
15) Remove the 6 hog rings securing the back trim to the back foam, 3 in each of the horizontal wires.
16) Remove the back trim from the back foam and frame assembly.
17) Remove the seatback frame from the foam.
18) See seat reassembly.
2. RH SEAT
1) Remove the headrest by removing the headrest snap retainer clip and headrest.
2) Remove the inner hinge cover by removing the retaining screw on the inner cover and pulling the side cover apart from the recliner cover and then unhook from the front of the seat frame. The removal process will break the clips of{ do not reuse the original trim covers. New trim covers are provided in Trim Cover Kit # 3.
3) Remove the outer hinge cover by pulling the side cover apart from the recliner cover and then unhook from the front of the seat frame. The removal process will break the clips of{ do not reuse the original trim covers. New trim covers are provided in Trim Cover Kit # 3.
5 Passenger Model, go to step # 6
4) 7 Passenger Model: Mark the location of the walk-in cables (there are three possible positions for each cable) and remove the screw securing the walk-in cables to the seat back frame.
5) 7 Passenger Model: Remove the walk-thru cables from the back frame by popping the cable end out of the retainer.
6) Remove the four reclining hinge bolts (two on each side) of the RH seat, then remove the seat backrest.
7) Cut and remove the wire ties that secure cables to the frame and foam.
8) Remove the screw cap and the two screws securing the backrest reclining lever.
9) Disconnect the cable connected to the recliner lever and remove lever assembly.
5 Passenger Model, go to step # 12
10) 7 Passenger Model: Remove the walk-thru lever knob.
11) 7 Passenger Model: Remove the walk-thru assembly by removing the screw cap and retaining screw.
12) Remove the two hog rings from the top rear of the seatback.
13) Remove the headrest lock bushings.
NOTE:
Push outward from inside of the seat to remove.
14) Unfasten the velcro fasteners on the rear of the bottom rear of the seatback.
15) Unhook the 5 J-channel fasteners.
16) Roll the bottom comers of the trim over and remove the 2 hog rings securing the bottom of the trim to the back foam.
17) Remove the 6 hog rings securing the back trim to the back foam, 3 in each of the horizontal wires.
18) Remove the back trim from the back foam and frame assembly.
19) Remove the foam from the seatback frame.
20) See below for assembly.
C: SEAT REASSEMBLY
CAUTION:
^ Be careful not to stain or damage the backrest cover during assembly.
^ Always use new hog rings (supplied in kit).
^ Secure the hog ring using hog ring pliers.
^ Install the hog rings securely and make sure no wrinkles or twists of the seat cover occurs.
1) Reassemble the backrest in the reverse order of disassembly.
2) LH SEAT - Install striker and cap. Tightening torque: 51.94 N-m (38.3 ft-lb)
3) Temporarily tighten the reclining hinge bolts in the order of (1) through (4), to an extent that the seat backrest assembly is not locked.
NOTE:
The new seat frame kit contains two (2) new 12mm hinge bolts which have blue lock tight applied. The new bolts must be used in place of the original M12 bolts. The remainder of the original bolts (M10) should be reused.
4) Use the reclining lever to place the backrest in the most upright position, and check the first lock position of the recliner.
5) Hold the seat cushion assembly securely, and tighten the reclining hinge bolts in the order described above until they reach the specified torque.
Tightening torque:
M10 Bolts - 52 N-m (37.6 ft-lb)
M12 Bolts - 70 N-m (51.7 ft-lb)
CAUTION:
Do not touch the backrest assembly when tightening the reclining hinge bolts.
6) Assemble each inner belt assembly and each cover in the reverse order of removal. NOTE: 7 Passenger RH Seat; Verify the operation of the walk through function before installing the hinge cover.
D: SEAT INSTALLATION
Reinstall the seat assembly in the reverse order of removal.
Tightening torque: 40 N-m (28.9 ft-lb)
NOTE:
Tighten the slide rail bolts diagonally in two or three steps by gradually increasing the torque, until they reach the specified torque.
E: INSPECTION
Ensure that the seat recline mechanism unlocks and locks when changing seatback positions. Ensure that the seat tracks and right and left seats move separately and together, locking and unlocking. Refer to 2nd row seat operation described in the Owners Manual; Seat, Seatbelt and SRS Airbags section 1-7 through 1-11.
Check that there are no tears or frays on the seat cover. Remove wrinkles by finessing the seatback trim by hand and aligning with the seatback foam.
F: CLEANING
Clean seat as needed. Recommended cleaning products:
3M Leather & Vinyl Cleaner/Restorer, part # 39040, (www.3M.com/automotive, product questions 877-666-2277). Note: This product is not recommended for fabric seat covers.
