Noise from "B" and "C" Pillar Trim
Introduction
If you encounter a customer complaint of a metallic type noise coming from the upper "B" and/or "C" pillar, it may be caused by the pillar trim brackets contacting the side curtain air bag brackets. To remedy the condition refer to the repair procedure listed below.
Countermeasure in Production
Non-woven material was added to the side curtain air bag brackets in the beginning of April, 2009 starting with VIN A*703634.

B Pillar Trim Material
Cut 8 pieces of non-woven material, 32mm x 9mm
Cut 8 pieces of non-woven material, 20mm x 6mm
C Pillar Trim Material
Cut 8 pieces of non-woven material, 37mm x 9mm
Cut 8 pieces of non-woven material, 21mm x 8mm
1) Remove both sides; B and C pillar trim (refer to applicable Subaru Service Manual).
2) Note: Make sure the surface is clean, rubbing alcohol or equivalent may be used with a clean rag. Remove backing and apply non-woven material to the surface of the pillar brackets as illustrated. After installing first 4 pieces, install an additional 4 pieces over the first set to obtain the proper thickness.
Warranty/Claim Information
For vehicles within the Basic New Car Limited Warranty period, this repair can be claimed using the table.
Parts: Use part # SOA635079 for the non-woven material. The part # is non-orderable and used for claim purposes only.
