Seat Belt Construction





Seat Belt with ELR

Seat belt with emergency locking retractor (ELR) is designed so that it locks immediately (to prevent the webbing from being pulled out of the retractor any further) when any of the following items is detected as exceeding each set value:

- Speed at which the webbing is pulled out of the retractor
- Acceleration or deceleration of vehicle speed
- Inclination

Seat Belt with A-ELR

Automatic and emergency locking retractor (A-ELR) works as an Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) till its webbing is pulled all the way out and then on as an Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) till it is retracted fully.

ALR automatically locks when the webbing is pulled out from the retractor and is retracted a little. Then the webbing cannot be pulled out any further, unless it is completely retracted into the retractor, which releases the lock and allows the webbing to be pulled out.

Seat Belt Pretensioner and Lap Pretensioner

Seat belt pretensioner and lap pretensioner work in conjunction with air bag.

Seat belt pretensioner is located in the retractor while lap pretensioner is located in seat belt anchor.

They are controlled by SDM as air bag system components.

Seat Belt Reminder

For driver side: When driver's seat belt is not fastened (under the following conditions), seat belt reminder light comes on and warning buzzer sounds to warn that driver's seat belt is not fastened. Seat belt reminder light and warning buzzer and located in meter and cluster operate as follows:

- If the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition mode of keyless push start system is set to "ON", seat belt reminder light comes on for approximately 20 seconds and then flashes for approximately 55 seconds. Warning buzzer also sounds for approximately 6 seconds.
- 30 seconds after above operation is completed, and vehicle speed exceeds 8 km/h with seat belt not fastened, seat belt reminder light and warning buzzer operate in the same manner as mentioned above.
- 180 seconds after above operation is completed, and seat belt is still not fastened, seat belt reminder light and warning buzzer operate in the same manner as mentioned above.
- If driver's seat belt state is changed from "fastened" to "unfastened", seat belt reminder light and warning buzzer operate in the same manner as mentioned above.

For passenger side: When passenger's seat belt is not fastened (under the following conditions), seat belt reminder light comes on and warning buzzer sounds to warn that passenger's seat belt is not fastened. Seat belt reminder light is located in hazard warning switch and warning buzzer is located in combination meter. They operate as follows:

- If passenger's seat belt is not fastened with an occupant on passenger's seat when the ignition mode of keyless push start system is set to "ON", seat belt reminder light comes on for approximately 20 seconds and then flashes for approximately 55 seconds. Warning buzzer also sounds for approximately 6 seconds.
- Vehicle speed exceeds 8 km/h with seat belt not fastened, seat belt reminder light and warning buzzer operate in the same manner as mentioned above.
- Seat belt is still not fastened, seat belt reminder light and warning buzzer operate in the same manner as mentioned above.
- If passenger's seat belt state is changed from "fastened" to "unfastened", seat belt reminder light and warning buzzer operate in the same manner as mentioned above.
