Introduction
The Highlander is equipped with an indirect Tire Pressure Warning System (TPWS).
To operate the Tire Pressure Warning System under normal conditions, the TPWS ECU must be initialized with the tires at the specified tire inflation pressure. For further information on the 2007 model year Highlander indirect Tire Pressure Warning System, refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), 2004 model year Highlander New Car Features Manual: Chassis and Drivetrain: Tire Pressure Warning System.
Tire pressure is set high at the assembly plant for transport and storage to prevent tire flat spots. Therefore, after adjusting all the tires to the standard air pressure, perform initialization of the TPWS ECU at your dealership prior to delivery.

Initialization Procedure
1. Adjust all tires to the standard air pressure.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. Check that the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light blinks (twice per second).
3. Push and hold the Tire Pressure Warning "SET" switch for 3 seconds until the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light blinks 3 times in 6 seconds (once every two seconds). After that, make sure that the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light goes OFF.
NOTE:
If the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light does not blink, release the Tire Pressure Warning "SET" switch and press it again.
REFERENCE:
While TPWS initialization is in progress, the tire pressure is NOT being monitored.
Please explain to the customer during vehicle delivery that initialization of the Tire Pressure Warning System will be completed after driving the vehicle for 30 to 60 minutes and that the tire pressure is not monitored before the completion of the initialization.
NOTE:
If the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light begins to blink (2 times per second) while driving, return to step 2.
Service Tip
There are two different purposes for the "SET" switch. Refer to the information below when utilizing the "SET" switch.
Reset of the TPWS is required after:
^ The light is ON and the tire pressures have been adjusted.
^ The light is ON, a flat repair has been performed, and the same tire has been reused.
To reset the TPWS (does NOT require initialization): With the TPWS light ON, press the TPWS "SET" switch (located below the steering wheel, close to the DLC3 connector), hold for 1 - 2 seconds until the TPWS light turns OFF, and then release the switch.
Reinitialization of the TPWS is required after:
^ Tire rotation
^ Alignment
^ Tire replacement/swap
^ Wheel replacement
^ Suspension component replacement
To reinitialize the TPWS: Press and hold the TPWS "SET" switch until the TPWS light blinks 3 times in 1 second intervals. Release the "SET" switch after the light completes 3 blinks.
This clears all memorized system data and starts the initialization process. After this procedure has been performed, it will be necessary to drive the vehicle to complete the initialization process.
NOTE:
Depending on the vehicle owner's driving patterns, habits, and trip duration, initialization of the TPWS may take a significant amount of driving, with several trips, to complete initialization. For this reason, the initialization should be completed by the customer during normal driving conditions.
