Concealment Plug Removal

Fig. 20 Concealment plug removal (typical):

1. Remove carburetor from engine.
2. Plug carburetor vacuum ports to prevent entry of metal particles while drilling.
3. Center punch concealment plug, then drill a .256 inch (6.5 mm) hole in the center of the plug, Fig. 20. There is only a .04 inch (1 mm) clearance between the concealment plug and the mixture adjustment screw. Therefore, drill slowly and carefully to prevent damaging the idle mixture screw.
4. Working through the hole in the plug (if still in place) with a suitable screwdriver, tighten idle mixture adjustment screw fully. To prevent damage to the mixture adjustment screw, do not overtighten.
5. If concealment plug is still in place, remove using a .295 inch (7.5 mm) drill bit to force the plug out.
6. Install carburetor, then loosen mixture adjustment screw the specified amount of turns.
7. Adjust idle mixture and install concealment plug.
