Except Front Wheel Drive & 4 Wheel Drive Tercel

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Disconnect upper radiator hose from engine, then the neutral start and back-up lamp switch electrical connectors.
3. Disconnect throttle linkage from turnbuckle, then the cooler pipe clamp from transaxle housing.
4. Remove three upper bellhousing bolts.
5. Remove both front wheels, bearing locknuts, brake caliper and stabilizer bar brackets.
6. Remove shock absorber to steering knuckle bolt, then separate shock absorber from knuckle and remove driveshaft from hub.
7. Remove left side stiffener plate, then remove driveshaft using tool 0964816010 or equivalent.
8. Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold, then remove right side stiffener bolt.
9. Remove bolt securing shift linkage to manual lever, then disconnect speedometer cable.
10. Remove engine undercover and torque converter cover and the converter to engine bolts.
11. Remove remaining transaxle to engine bolts, then disconnect cooler lines from transaxle.
12. Support transaxle using suitable jack,then remove engine rear support.
13. Position transaxle .39 inch (10 mm) rearward from engine, then while rotating crankshaft carefully tap on converter to separate it from drive plate.
14. Lower jack and remove transaxle from vehicle.
15. Reverse procedure to install. Ensure converter is recessed .31 inch (8 mm) into torque converter housing as measured from converter hub to converter housing mounting surface.
