Drivetrain - Propeller Shaft New Bolt, Nut And Torque

For parts standardization, the bolts and nuts for securing the propeller shaft universal joint yoke have been changed in material. As a result, the bolts and nuts have been changed in color from gold to black and have also been made common on all passenger cars and trucks. Also, the special weighted bolts available for balancing (Ref. Vol. VII, NVH #1) have also been changed in material and color. Therefore, when selecting weighted bolts for balancing, make certain the bolt color matches existing bolts on shaft to be balanced.

IMPORTANT: The tightening torque for new bolts has been changed from 350 kg-cm (25.32 ft.lbs.) to 430 kg-cm (31.10 ft.lbs.).
