Seat Belts - Auxiliary Anchor Point For Shoulder Belt

An auxiliary front pillar anchor point for the shoulder belts is provided on the Toyota models listed below. This auxiliary anchor point is provided for extra comfort and convenience to front seat occupants whose necks are likely to be in contact with the shoulder belt due to their seating postures and/or body structure.
The original anchor point for the front seat shoulder belt is designed so that the belt is in a position that will be comfortable for a majority of drivers and passengers. The auxiliary anchor point is to be used only for vehicles with occupants that are inconvenienced by the original shoulder belt position.

2. Procedure To Relocate Anchor Point
(1) Remove shoulder belt anchor cover and remove anchor bolt.
(2) Remove center pillar garnish. *(Note: Except Truck/4-Runner, MR2, Celica, and Camry Series)
(3) Identify the location of the alternative anchor point position which may be marked by a dimple approximately 1" to 2" (varies from model to model) below the original anchor position on the front surface of the garnish panel. To further confirm the alternate position, check the back side of the garnish panel for a marking which should correspond to the position of the alternate anchor point (nut insert) in the pillar.
*(Note: On Truck/4-Runner, MR2, Celica and Camry Series, do not remove the pillar garnish. The alternative anchor point is identified by dimple on the outside surface of the garnish trim below the existing anchor point.)
(4) Drill 25 mm diameter hole in garnish panel only for the shoulder belt anchor bolt from the finished surface side of the garnish.
(5) Reinstall garnish panel.
(6) Reinstall original shoulder anchor bait (torque to 440 kg cm - 32 ft.lbs) through the new hole of the garnish panel and reinstall the anchor cover.
(7) The original (upper) anchorage hole in the garnish may be covered with a hole plug. The plug (basic part number 90950-01159) are provided in the following colors to match the interior trim:
