Spark Plug Wires
Air Cleaner Hose Removal:
1. Disconnect air cleaner hose.
2. Disconnect cruise control, accelerator, and automatic throttle cables.
3. Disconnect six hoses from ISC pipe.
ISC Pipe Removal:
4. Remove the two retaining bolts and remove the ISC pipe.
5. Remove the oxygen sensor wire from the two clamps.
6. Disconnect the #4 PCV hose from the PCV pipe.
PCV Pipe Removal:
7. Remove the two retaining bolts. Remove the PCV pipe with hoses from cylinder head covers and throttle body.
8. Disconnect the air valve hose from the intake air connector.
Intake Air Connector Removal:
9. Loosen the clamps and remove the intake air connector retaining bolts. Remove the intake air connector.
10. Remove the oil filler cap.
Ignition Coil Cover Removal And Installation:
11. Remove the five retaining nuts and the ignition coil cover.
Ignition Wire Removal:
12. Remove the secondary ignition wires from the ignition coils and from the spark plugs.
CAUTION: Carefully remove the ignition wires by pulling on the rubber boots. Do not bend the wire or the conductor may be broken.
13. Remove the secondary ignition wires from the plastic holders and from vehicle.
Typical Wire Inspection:
14. Check the condition of the wire terminals. If any terminal is corroded clean it. If it is broken or distorted, replace the wire.
15. Connect ohmmeter probes to each end of wire, measure resistance.
Resistance: 25K ohms max. at 68°F (20°C)
16. If resistance exceeds 25k ohms, replace the ignition wire.
