Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview


This method of diagnosis may be used for intermittent malfunctions that may not store a code.

Vibration Method
1. Shake electrical connectors vertically and horizontally.
2. Shake electrical harness vertically and horizontally, then check connector joint, vibration fulcrum and body through portion.
3. Apply slight finger vibration to part or sensor, check if malfunction will occur. Do not apply vibration to the center airbag sensor.

Heat Method
Heat suspected component with hair dryer or similar object, see if malfunction occurs. Do not heat to more than 140°F (60°C), do not apply heat directly to ECU.

Water Method
Sprinkle water to suspected area, see if malfunction occurs. Never apply water directly to electronic components or damage may occur.

Excessive Electrical Load Test
Turn off all electrical loads, then see if malfunction occurs.
