VIN PLATES & CERTIFICATION LABELS

Replacement VIN plates (riveted to dashboard) and Certification Regulation labels (affixed to driver's door or door post) are available from TMC providing the request meets one of the following criteria:

- The original plate or label is incorrect (an incorrect Certification Regulation plate or label must accompany the request; an incorrect VIN plate must be returned after receipt of the new one).

- The vehicle is in an accident and the plate or label is damaged or is attached to a part that will be replaced during the repair* (the plate or label to be replaced must accompany the request).

- The plate or label is stolen.* Be sure to contact State Police or the Department of Motor Vehicles; in many cases they will issue a unique number so that the original can be included on stolen vehicle listings. When requesting a new plate or label to replace a stolen one, it is necessary to include a copy of the police or insurance company report.

Aluminum Certification Regulation plates are no longer available as replacements. If one is requested, a vinyl label containing information from this plate combined with information from the manufacturer's plate (mounted on the engine compartment side of the dash panel) will be supplied instead.

On the second and third page of this bulletin is a form to request a replacement VIN plate or Certification Regulation label. If a replacement plate/label is required, proceed as follows:

- Make a copy of the request form.

- Fill-in the appropriate information.

- Mail the form along with the necessary enclosure to the address shown on the form.

- Processing time will require three to six weeks between receipt of the form and the issuing of the replacement plate or label.

* All replacement VIN plates for damaged and/or stolen vehicles are subject to approval by the Technical Compliance Department.
