Code 71 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Malfunction

Data Trouble Code No.71 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System Malfunction

Detecting Condition
EGR gas temperature is 60°C (140°F) for A/T [55°C (131°F) for M/T] or below for 1 - 4 minutes under the following conditions:
(2 trip detection)
- Engine coolant temperature 60°C (140°F) or more.
- Exhaust Gas Recirculation operation possible (i.e., A/T in 3rd gear or M/T in 5th gear, A/C ON, 96 km/h (60 mph), flat road.

Trouble Area
^ Open in EGR gas temperature sensor circuit.
^ Short in vacuum switching valve for EGR circuit.
^ EGR hose disconnected or valve stuck.
^ Clogged EGR gas passage.
^ Engine Control Module.
