Engine: Service and Repair
1. Obtain audio coded anti-theft code, if equipped, disarm air bag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information. On models with air bag system, disarm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information.2. Remove battery and battery tray, then the hood.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then remove engine undercover, drain coolant, oil and fuel.
4. Lower vehicle and disconnect control cables from throttle body, then remove air cleaner duct.
5. Remove air cleaner assembly, VAF meter and intake air connector pipe assembly.
6. Remove No. 1, 2 and 5 air tubes.
7. Remove No. 2 fan shroud.
8. Remove lefthand headlight beam angle gauge, then the radiator.
9. On models with automatic transmission, disconnect oil cooler hoses from cooler tubes and plug hose ends.
10. Remove drive belt, fan, fluid coupling assembly and water pump pulley.
11. Remove charcoal canister, then disconnect heater hoses.
12. Disconnect brake booster vacuum hose and EVAP hose.
13. Disconnect all engine wire connectors.
14. Disconnect fuel inlet and return lines. Put a suitable container or shop towel under fuel pipe support to soak up any spillage.
15. Remove engine wire bracket, then disconnect power steering pump without disconnecting the hoses.
16. Position power steering pump assembly aside, then disconnect power steering pressure tube from engine.
17. Disconnect air conditioning compressor without disconnecting any hoses and secure aside. Handle hoses carefully to avoid kinks or other damage.
18. Disconnect engine wire from cowl panel and from inside vehicle.
19. On models with manual transmission, remove upper console panel, shift lever boots and holding bolts, then disconnect clutch release cylinder and transmission ground strap.
20. Disconnect sub-heated oxygen sensor from exhaust.
21. Remove No. 2 exhaust pipe from front exhaust pipe.
22. Remove exhaust heat insulator, then the propeller shaft.
23. Disconnect transmission control rod and shift lever.
24. Remove rear engine support member, then attach engine hoist chain and carefully lift engine/transmission assembly from vehicle.
25. Reverse procedure to install. Reset audio coded anti-theft system, if equipped, as outlined under Technician Safety Information. On models with air bag system, rearm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
