Component Tests and General Diagnostics
KNOCK SENSOR INSPECTION
1. DISCONNECT NEGATIVE (-) TERMINAL CABLE FROM BATTERY.
CAUTION: Work must not be started for at least 90 seconds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position end the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.
2. TEST KNOCK SENSOR LEAD.
a. Disconnect the knock sensor connector.
b. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between the sensor lead wire and (grounded) shield wires.
- If continuity exists, replace knock sensor lead from sensor to the engine control module (ECM).
editor's note: Use shielded "telephone wire" as a replacement lead. Always replace the complete length of wire, sensor to ECM.
3. REMOVE KNOCK SENSOR.
- Using Special Service Tool (SST 09816-30010), remove the knock sensor.
4. INSPECT KNOCK SENSOR.
- Using an ohmmeter, check that there is no continuity between the terminal and body.
- If there is continuity, replace the sensor.
5. REINSTALL KNOCK SENSOR.
- Using SST (09816-30010), install the knock sensor.
Torque: 44 Nm (33 ft.lb)
- Connect the knock sensor connector.
6. RECONNECT NEGATIVE (-) TERMINAL CABLE TO BATTERY.
