Introduction

To minimize the possibility of headliner retainers pulling loose from rear rail when convertible top is lowered, a stronger retainer is now utilized. If the retainers have pulled loose on vehicles built prior to the countermeasure, perform the repair procedure detailed in this bulletin.

Affected Vehicles

^ 1995 and 1996 Celica Convertibles before December 1995 (Refer to ASC door label).

Warranty Information

Repair Procedure

1. Place convertible top in the up and latched position.





2. Remove headliner retainers (Item A) 4 per vehicle (Fig. 1).

3. Fold and secure headliner with masking tape to access retainer holes in rear rail.

4. Protect surface of rear passenger seat and surrounding area.

5. Enlarge the four existing holes using a drill with a 13/64 inch bit.

NOTE:
Use a drill stop that is set at 1/2 inch to avoid drilling through the convertible top cover.

6. Clean up surrounding area.








7. Attach headliner with new retainers.
