SUBJECT:
COMPONENT REPLACEMENT (ENGINE/CYLINDER HEAD REPLACEMENT) GUIDELINES - AMENDMENT TO WARRANTY POLICY NO. 5.4
This bulletin has been revised. Please discard the original version dated 03/17/95 and replace it with this reissue.
The following amends Toyota Warranty Policy No. 5.4 (Component Replacement) in the Toyota Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual regarding engine and cylinder head replacements performed under warranty.
Policy
Effective with March 15, 1995, repair dates, the following guidelines are to be used in determining which parts of the engine should be replaced or repaired. These guidelines will ensure that only damaged parts are replaced. Parts that are not damaged are to be reused during the repair. When performing engine repairs, the engine assembly should be replaced only if the cost of repairs would equal or exceed the cost of the assembly.
Listed are guidelines to determine which parts require replacement, based on the condition:
Additionally, because most engine repairs can be remedied using one of the above options, claims listing the replacement of the partial engine assembly (19000-##### or 18000-#####) will be returned for correction. In those very unusual situations where a partial engine assembly is needed, DSM authorization is required. Dealers enrolled in the Service Manager Authorization Program (SMAP) can not self-authorize the replacement of a partial engine assembly.
Claim Requirements
Documentation Requirements
All documentation requirements, as outlined in Section 8 of the Toyota Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual, apply to engine repair claims.
