Broken Terminal Removal
1) Allow the rear window to warm up to room temperature (over 60 degrees F) and move headliner away from rear window area.
2) Cover the area under the rear window terminals with a sufficient cover to avoid damage from hot solder.
CAUTION:
DO NOT pry the broken terminal from the rear window.
3) If necessary, grasp the broken terminal on the rear window with pliers and using a 200 waft soldering iron (or a 200 waft soldering gun as shown in the illustrations), heat the feet portion of the terminal to release the solder (Figure 2). Remove the broken terminal.
4. Carefully remove the terminal end from the terminal wire (Figure 3).
5. Clean the bus bar in the terminal area using fine steel wool (3/0 to 4/0 grade).
NOTE:
If the bus bar has been damaged, the bus bar must be restored using an appropriate rear window defogger repair kit and following the manufacturers instructions.
