Speed Sensor Signal Check
WITHOUT SCANTOOL1. When the Ignition Switch is turned ON, check that the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Warning Light goes on for 2 seconds.
2. Turn the Ignition Switch OFF.
Connecting Terminals:
3. Using Special Service Tool (SST) # 09843 - 18020, connect terminals Ts and E1 of Data Link Connector (DLC)1.
4. Start the engine.
Number Of Blinks Of ABS Warning Light Cycle:
5. Check that the ABS Warning Light blinks.
NOTE: If the ABS Warning Light does not blink, inspect the ABS Warning Light circuit.
6. Drive vehicle straight forward.
NOTE: Drive vehicle faster than 45-55 km/h (28-34 mph) for several seconds.
If the brake is applied during the check, the check routine must be started again.
7. Stop the vehicle.
8. Turn the Ignition Switch OFF.
9. Disconnect the SST from terminals Ts and E1 and, connect the SST to terminals Tc and E1 of DLC1.

10. Turn the Ignition Switch ON.
11. Read the number of blinks of the ABS Warning Light.
NOTE: See the list of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).
If every sensor is normal, a normal code is output (A cycle of 0.25 sec. ON and 0.25 sec. OFF is repeated).
If 2 or more malfunction are indicated at the same time, the lowest numbered code will be displayed 1st.
Malfunctioning Codes On SST:
12. After doing the check, disconnect the SST from terminals Tc and E1 of DLC1, and turn Ignition Switch OFF.

WITH SCAN-TOOL (TOYOTA hand-held tester or equivalent.)
Connecting TOYOTA Hand-Held Tester To DLC2:
1. Do step 1 - 6 on the previous procedure.
2. Hook up the TOYOTA hand-held tester to the DLC2.
3. Read the DTC by following the prompts on the tester screen.
