Wheels and Tires: Testing and Inspection

GENERAL INSPECTION





1. Inspect the tire.
a. Check the tires for wear and for the proper inflation pressure.

Cold Tire Pressure
Tire Size: P185/60R14 82H
Tire Pressure (Front, Rear): 180 kPa (26 psi).

b. Check the tire runout, it should be 1.4 mm (0.055 inch) or less.





2. Rotating tires.

NOTE: See the illustration for where to rotate each tire.




3. Inspect the wheel balance by doing the following.
a. Check and adjust the off-the-car balance.
b. If necessary, check and adjust the on-the--car balance.
c. Unbalance after adjustment should be 8.0 g (0.018 lbs.) or less.





4. Check wheel bearing looseness.
a. Check the backlash in the bearing shaft direction. The maximum reading should be 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch).
b. Check the axle hub deviation. The maximum reading should be 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch).

5. Check the front suspension for looseness.
6. Check the steering linkage for looseness.
7. Check the ball joint for looseness.
8. Check the shock absorber to make sure it works properly by doing the following:
^ Check for oil leaks.
^ Check the mounting bushings for wear.
^ Bounce the front and rear of the vehicle.
