Removal and Installation

TRANSAXLE REMOVAL




1. Remove air cleaner assembly.




2. Remove throttle cable from engine.




3. Remove ground cables, wire harness and throttle cable clamp bracket from transaxle.
4. Remove 2 transaxle upper side mounting bolts and starter upper side mounting bolt.

Torque:
A bolt: 39 Nm (400 kgf/cm, 29 ft.lbs.)
B bolt: 64 Nm (650 kgf/cm, 47 ft.lbs.)




5. Install engine support fixture.
6. Jack up vehicle and remove front wheels.
7. Remove LH and RH engine under covers.
8. Remove drive shaft.




9. Disconnect solenoid connector.




10. Disconnect control cable.
a. Pull out the clip from the control cable.
b. Remove the lock nut and disconnect the control cable from the control shaft lever.




11. Disconnect connector from park/neutral position switch.




12. Disconnect 2 oil cooler pipes.
13. Support transaxle.
Support the transaxle with a transmission jack.




14. Remove 2 bolts from engine mounting left side bracket.

Torque: 48 Nm (490 kgf/cm, 35 ft.lbs.)




15. Remove starter.
a. Remove the bolt, nut and stay.

Torque: 20 Nm (200 kgf/cm, 15 ft.lbs.)

b. Remove the bolt and nut.

Torque: 39 Nm (400 kgf cm, 29 ft.lbs.)

c. Disconnect the connector and terminal.
d. Remove the starter.




16. Remove speedometer cable.
17. Disconnect no.2 vehicle speed sensor connector.




18. Secure stabilizer bar.
19. Remove bolt from rear engine mounting bracket.

Torque: 64 Nm (650 kgf/cm, 47 ft.lbs.)

20. Remove engine rear mount insulator.
Remove the 5 bolts.

Torque:
- A Bolt: 78 Nm (800 kgf/cm, 58 ft.lbs.)
- B Bolt: 90 Nm (920 kgf/cm, 67 ft.lbs.)




21. Remove transaxle.
a. Remove the hole plug.
b. Turn the crankshaft to gain access and remove the 6 bolts with holding the crankshaft pulley nut by a wrench.

Torque: 18 Nm (185 kgf cm, 13 ft.lbs.)

NOTE: First, install the gray bolt. Then install 5 black bolts.




c. Remove the 6 bolts and transaxle.

Torque :
- A bolt: 46 Nm (470 kgf/cm, 34 ft.lbs.)
- B bolt: 8.0 Nm (76 kgf cm, 66 in.lbs.)
- C bolt: 39 Nm (400 kgf/cm, 29 ft.lbs.)
- D bolt: 25 Nm (255 kgf cm, 18 ft.lbs.)
- E bolt: 64 Nm (650 kgf/cm, 47 ft.lbs.)

TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH INSTALLATION CHECK




Using calipers and a straight edge, measure from the installed surface to the front surface of the transaxle housing.

Correct distance:
More than 13.4 mm (0.528 in.)

TRANSAXLE INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

NOTE: After installation, check and inspect items as follows.
- Fluid level.
- Front wheel alignment.
- Road test the vehicle.
