Introduction
There has been a design change in the meter case to correct a concern with the trip meter reset. When the reset button is pressed and held the meter display would change to the next display mode and the trip meter would not reset.

Affected Vehicles
^ 1998 model year Avalons built before 4T1BF18B * WU231096

Repair Procedure

1. Remove the speedometer from the combination meter case.





2. Clip 5 mm off the length of the trip meter reset arm support post.

3. Remove debris from meter case.

NOTE:
The support post is part of the molded housing in which the speedometer is mounted. Use the picture attached to determine the exact post to clip.

Applicable Warranty*:

This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
