SERVICE HINT (ENGINE IMMOBILISER SYSTEM)
PRODUCTION EFFECTIVE :
This Service Hint provides you with the necessary precautions to follow when starting a vehicle that is equipped with an Engine Immobiliser System. This information must be explained to customers on initial delivery of their vehicles.
NOTE:
When using a key containing a transponder chip, please observe the following precautions :
1. When starting engine, do not allow a key ring (if attached) to contact the key grip in the vicinity of the transponder chip, otherwise the engine may not start or alternatively, may stop soon after it starts.
2. When starting engine, do not have any other keys or items containing a trans-ponder chip attached to the inserted ignition key (e.g.: via a key ring).
- Do not allow any other key plate to contact the key grip of the inserted ignition key, in the vicinity of the transponder chip.
- Failure to comply with the above may result in an engine no-start or engine may stop soon after it starts.
HINT:
If the engine exhibits a no-start condition or stops soon after it starts, remove the ignition key once and then reinsert it after removing any keys or items containing a transponder chip from the attached key ring.
