Repair Procedure

1. Dirt Removal:

Remove any dirt or contamination on the surface of the grille with soap and water (use a soft terry cloth or sponge for dirt removal).

NOTE:

^ Avoid the use of a brush (regardless of type) when cleaning the surface of the grille.

^ Tape (masking tape) around the grille, prior to the sanding process.

^ Be sure to remove all dirt particles, since they will cause further scratching of the plastic grille during the polishing process.

2. Surface Sanding:

Using light pressure sand the grille surface with 1500-2000 grit sandpaper until the scratch is removed.

NOTE:

^ Sanding may be done with or without water.

^ Change sandpaper frequently -- Sandpaper that is clogged with grille residue will add new scratches to the grille surface.

3. Surface Cleaning:

Clean all sanding residue from the grille surface.

4. Surface Polishing:

a. Apply a small amount of ultra-fine polishing compound to a soft towel (wet towel with water as necessary).

b. Polish the grille surface until the original luster is achieved.

5. Surface Cleaning:

Clean all polish residues from the grille surface.

6. Surface Waxing:

Wax the entire grille surface making sure to add a second coat of wax to all surfaces that were sanded and polished.

7. Final Clean-up:

a. Remove all masking tape.

b. Remove all remnants of polish and wax from the small area between the grille and hood area.
