MOONROOF NOISE DURING OPERATION
Some customers may notice a noise while operating the moonroof. The roof silencer pad may have loosened and rubbed against the glass when sliding the moonroof open. In some cases, the pad may become lodged in the moonroof assembly. The roof silencer pad was redesigned to remedy this condition.

2000 model year Avalon.

REPAIR PROCEDURES:
1. Move the moonroof glass to the forward and closed position, if possible.
2. Lower the headliner. Refer to the 2000 MY Avalon Repair Manual pages BO-93 through BO-96.
NOTE:
The headliner is attached to the roof with velcro-type fasteners at the rear window and the rear cross-bar of the moonroof.
3. Remove all Roof Silencer ad material. Clean the area of the roof, where the pad was located, with a mild solvent.
4. In some cases, some of the silencer material may have become lodge in the moonroof assembly. Removal of the moonroof assembly may be necessary to assure the pad material was completely removed and moonroof system is free of damage.
Refer to the 2000 MY Avalon Repair Manual pages BO-72 through BO-79 for moonroof assembly removal.
5. The one-piece Roof Silencer Pad will be replaced by two pieces of Roof Silencer Pads.
A. Some of the Roof Silencer Pads parts are the former size and must be cut to the dimensions of the new pad size.
B. Install new Roof Silencer Pads to the roof at the locations shown.
6. Reinstall the moonroof assembly, if it was removed.
7. Reinstall the headliner and other components that were removed. Assure all clips and fasteners are secured.
8. Open, close, and tilt the moonroof assembly several times to verify proper operation.

Hint:
At approx. 10 sec. after starting the reverse operation, it is switched to the forced close (down) operation.
