Introduction

A field fix is available for incidents of the ashtray door not opening on 2000 and 2001 model year Avalon vehicles. Replace the ashtray receptacle with a revised part.

^ 2000 - 2001 model year Avalon vehicles.





Parts Information

Repair Procedure

Refer to 2001 Avalon Repair Manual page BO-87 for additional information.

1. Set parking brake and move gear selector to "N".





2. Remove the upper rear console panel sub-assembly. Use a door panel removal tool to pry at the rear edge of the part.

3. Remove the upper console panel sub-assembly. Remove the two Phillips screws and pry the panel at the rear edge.

4. Remove the front ashtray receptacle assembly from the upper console panel sub-assembly.

5. Install the new front ash receptacle assembly onto the upper console panel sub-assembly. Assure the electrical connector is firmly installed and the door properly functions.

6. Reinstall all the removed parts in reverse order of removal. Assure all parts are properly aligned and fasteners are tight.

This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
