Introduction





Some 2000 - 2001 model year Avalon vehicles may exhibit a low frequency noise when the steering wheel is turned at low speeds. The shape of the No. 2 Column Hole Cover Sub-Assembly has been changed to reduce the noise.

Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty *:

This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

REMOVAL





1. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the No. 2 column hole cover sub-assembly.





2. Place matchmarks on the intermediate shaft sub-assembly and control valve shaft.

3 Loosen bolt A and remove bolt B, then disconnect the intermediate shaft sub-assembly.

4. Remove No. 2 column hole cover sub-assembly.

PREPARATION





Apply Seal-Tite(TM) Dielectric Silicone Grease (or equivalent) to the inner seal-surface of the No. 2 column hole cover sub-assembly.

INSTALLATION

Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

Torque (bolt "A" and "B"):

35 Nm (360 kgf.cm, 26 ft.lbf)
