STEERING COLUMN NOISE

Some 2000 - 2001 model year Avalon vehicles may exhibit a low frequency noise when the steering wheel is turned at low speeds. The shape of the No. 2 Column Hole Cover Sub Assembly has been changed to reduce the noise.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
2000 - 2001 model year Avalon vehicles.

REQUIRED TOOLS & MATERIALS:

REMOVAL:





1. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the No. 2 column hole cover sub-assembly.





2. Place matchmarks on the intermediate shaft sub assembly and control valve shaft.
3. Loosen bolt A and remove bolt B, then disconnect the intermediate shaft sub-assembly.
4. Remove No. 2 column hole cover sub-assembly.

PREPARATION:





Apply Seal Tite Dielectric Silicone Grease (or equivalent) to the inner seal surface of the No. 2 column hole cover sub-assembly.

INSTALLATION:

Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
Torque (bolt "A" and "B"): 35 N-m (360 kgf-cm, 26 ft-lbf)
