INSTRUMENT PANEL LUMINOSITY

Introduction
To further reduce instrument panel reflectiveness in bright sunlight and combination meter luminosity at night, a production change has been implemented and a field fix has been developed.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY *:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Repair Procedure
Disassembly
1. Remove the speaker cover assemblies.
^ Refer to the 2001 Avalon Repair Manual, page BO-93, picture No. 27.
2. Remove the upper cluster finish panel. Use a door panel tool, not a screwdriver, to pry the part loose.
^ Refer to the 2001 Avalon Repair Manual, page B~93, picture No. 28.
3. Remove the lower cluster finish panel. Use a door panel tool, not a screw driver, to pry the part loose.
NOTE:
This piece will be replaced with a revised part (P/N 55422-AC010) when the vehicle is reassembled.

4. Remove the end finish panel. Remove two (2) screws, then use a radiator hose tool under the left bottom corner and pull back gently. Use fingers on the top left corner and pull back gently.

5. Remove the four (4) screws securing the multi-info display panel.
6. Remove the three (3) screws securing the combination meter panel.

Field Fix Parts Installation - Combination Meter
Refer to the 2001 Avalon Repair Manual, page BE-50.
1. Carefully unclip the "Glass" cover from the combo-meter assembly.
2. Carefully unclip the black plastic frame "Plate" from the combo-meter assembly.
3. Install the "revised" black plastic frame (P/N 83811-07021) on to the combo-meter assembly.
4. Install the "revised" "Glass" cover (P/N 83852-07021) onto the combo-meter assembly.
Field Fix Parts Installation - Multi-Information Display
Refer to the 2001 Avalon Repair Manual. page BE-49.
1. Carefully unclip the "Glass" cover from the multi-information display assembly.
2. Install the "revised" "Glass" cover onto the multi-information display assembly.
Use Glass P/N 83253-07011, 83253-07031, or 83253-07051. depending on the model. Refer to the Parts Information chart.
Reassembly
1. Install the combination meter assembly. multi-information display assembly and revised end finish panel (55436-AC011) into the instrument panel.
2. Before reinstalling all remaining removed parts. check all Instruments and instrument panel lights for proper function.
3. Reassemble the remaining removed parts, in reverse order of disassembly. Assure all fasteners are secure. Install the revised lower cluster finish panel (P/N 55422-AC010).
