SLIDING ROOF NOISE DURING OPERATION

Introduction
Some 2000 model year Avalon vehicles may exhibit a noise during sliding root operation The roof silencer pad may have become loose and rubbed against the glass when opening the sliding roof. In some cases, the pad may become lodged in the sliding roof assembly. The roof silencer pad was redesigned to remedy this condition.

This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
*Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Repair Procedure
1. Move the sliding roof glass to the forward and closed position, if possible.
2. Lower the headliner. Refer to the 2000 MY Avalon Repair Manual pages BO-93 through BO-96.
NOTE:
The headliner is attached to the roof with Velcro-type fasteners at the rear window and the rear cross-bar of the sliding roof.
3. Remove all Roof Silencer Pad material. Clean the area of the roof, where the pad was located, with a mild solvent.
4. In some cases, some of the silencer pad material may have become lodged in the sliding roof assembly. Removal of the sliding roof assembly may be necessary to assure the pad material was completely removed and the sliding roof system is free of damage.

5. Install new Roof Silencer Pads (P/N 63341-AC020) to the roof at the locations shown.
6. Reinstall the sliding roof assembly, if it was removed.
7. Reinstall the headliner and other components that were removed. Assure all clips and fasteners are secured.
8. Open, close, and tilt the sliding roof assembly several times to verify proper operation.
