This Technical Service Bulletin informs you of the repair procedure and provides the field fix part numbers to prevent a sticking condition of the heater airflow selector knob lever.





In order to prevent the lever from sticking which may occur occasionally when the heater air flow selector is operated from DEFROSTER to FOOT, some critical dimensions of the lever illustrated, have been changed. The angle in which the lever slides in the plate has been increased.

NOTE:
Defroster Damper Control Cable Sub-Assy has been changed to stainless steel type on production line since November, 1999.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. PARTS
- Damper Plate Sub- Assy contains the levers "1", "2" & "3", Screws "1" & "2" and Plate.

2. INSTALLATION METHOD:

(a) Detach the defroster damper control cable from Lever "1".
(b) Remove screws "1" and "2", lever "1" and lever "2".
(c) Remove the plate.
(d) Pull out lever "3". (You may need to use a flat tool to pull out this lever).





(e) Replace Lever "3" with the Field Fix part.

- The method to install the plate to the heater is delicate. Positioning the levers incorrectly will cause malfunctioning of the heater control system.

NOTE:
When incorrectly positioned, it is still possible to install the plate, but he internal valves will cause different airflow than expected.





- Position lever "3" so it points towards the plate pivot point. (Screw "2")
- The 3 other levers should be positioned fully counterclockwise.


- Carefully mount the plate to its pivot point. After installation of the plate, carefully check whether the lever pins are in the correct position. (See illustration)

(f) Mount levers "1" and "2".
(g) Mount screws "1" and "2".
(h) Replace defroster damper control cable with the modified one (stainless steel type).
