Introduction

To reduce interior squeaks and rattles from the trunk area and the instrument panel cover, the following repair procedures have been adopted.

Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty *:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

Repair Buzz Noise From Trunk Area Procedure

To eliminate a buzz noise caused by interference between the torsion bar and the luggage door right hinge support, perform the following steps:

1. Remove the torsion bars. Please refer to the 2000 ECHO Repair Manual, pages BO-27 to BO-28.





2. Shave the right hinge support 1 mm as shown in the illustration.

3. Cut a felt piece from the Interior Noise Kit (P/N 08231-00801) in the following dimensions:

L W T

30 mm 18 mm 2 mm

4. Apply the felt piece to the torsion bar as shown in the illustration.

5. Reassemble in the reverse order of disassembly.

Rattle Noise From Instrument Panel Cover

To eliminate a rattle noise caused by interference between the instrument panel cover and the No.1 heater-to-register duct, perform the following steps:





1. Remove the instrument panel cover. Please refer to the 2000 MY ECHO Repair Manual, pages BO-76 to BO-78.

2. Cut two pieces of sponge from the Interior Noise Kit (P/N 08231-00801) in the following dimensions:

L W T

60 mm 30 mm 5 mm

3. Apply sponge pieces between the back side of the instrument panel cover and the No.1 heater-to-register duct, after pulling on the heater duct.

4. Reassemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
