Introduction
This bulletin contains the procedure needed to properly calibrate the Steering Angle Sensor on the 2000 and 2001 model year Avalon vehicles with Vehicle Skid Control (VSC) System.
This information supplements the Repair Manual procedures when correcting "VSC" and "VSC OFF" lights caused by any of the following conditions:
^ Adjusting tie rods for a steering wheel off center.
^ Performing a four-wheel alignment.
^ Improper calibration of the steering angle sensor.
^ Replacement of the steering angle sensor. Replacement of the VSC ECU.

Repair Procedure
NOTICE
When replacing a new steering angle sensor, DTC C1208 may be present until calibration is successfully performed.
1. Using the SST connect terminals Ts and E1 of DLC1 or Ts and CG of DLC3.
DLC1: 09843-18020
DLC3: 00002-Y0414 (Yellow)
2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
3. Verify that the shift lever is in the Park ("P") position.
4. Press the "VSC OFF" switch and hold it while performing step 5.
5. Depress the brake pedal 3 or more times within 2 seconds.
6. Check that the VSC buzzer sounds for 3 seconds.
A. If the VSC buzzer sounds, go to step 7.
B. If the VSC buzzer does not sound, go to step 2 and repeat the procedure.
HINT
If the VSC buzzer STILL will not sound, there is a malfunction in the steering angle sensor. Check for DTCs.
7. The sensor calibration is normal and complete.
