Introduction

A field fix is available for incidents of 2002 model year Japan Built Camry rear seat release knob sticking or binding. Repair by replacing the release knob grommet as indicated in this bulletin.

Applicable Warranty*:

This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure





1. Remove the rear seat back lock release knob by unscrewing it from the release rod.

2. Remove the grommet by prying it loose with a blade tip screwdriver covered with tape. Be careful to not scratch or cut the seat fabric.

3. Install the new grommet by pushing it into the hole until it snaps into position.

4. Install the rear seat back lock release knob. Fold down and fold up the rear seat back 5 - 10 times to confirm that the release knob does not bind.
