Introduction

Some 2002 model year Camry (NAP) vehicles may exhibit a thumping/knocking noise from the rear suspension. Use the following instructions to repair the noise.

Applicable Vehicles

2002 model year Camry (NAP) vehicles produced before the VINs shown below.





Production Change Information

Repair Procedure





1. Remove rear seat cushion assembly and rear side seat back assembly per section 72 in the 2002 or 2003 Camry Repair Manual.

2. Confirm rear upper strut nut torque.

Torque: 49 N.m (500 kgf.cm, 36 ft.lbf)

This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
