ASHTRAY INSTALLATION

This bulletin contains detailed instructions covering the removal and replacement of the ashtray/lighter in the 2002 and 2003 model year Camry.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES: 2002 - 2003 model year Camry vehicles.







PARTS INFORMATION:

BEFORE INSTALLATION:

Precautions Before Installation:
- Remove key from ignition.
- Make sure headlights are in OFF position.

REMOVAL PROCEDURE:
1. Remove Console Upper Panel.







a) Open rear console door and the rear cup holder door as shown in Figure 1.







b) Remove console upper panel by firmly pulling upward on the panel, starting from the top of the panel, making sure not to misplace the 9 reusable clips. (Figure 2.)







2. Remove Rubber Tray from Floor Console. (Figure 3.)
3. Remove Ashtray/Lighter.







a) Detach the bottom portion of the floor console with upward force. (Figure 4.)
b) Open the ashtray/lighter door.







c) Apply upward force on the tabs indicated to detach the front portion of the ashtray/lighter. (Figure 5.)







d) Once the ashtray/lighter is detached, pull upwards on ashtray/lighter door to release entire ashtray/lighter unit. (Figure 6.)
e) Unplug the ashtray/lighter harness from the ashtray/lighter unit.
f) Make sure to push the bottom portion of the floor console down. (Figure 6.)

4. Connect Wiring.







a) Connect ashtray/lighter harness to new ashtray/lighter unit. (Figure 7.)

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:

1. Install Ashtray/Lighter.







a) Insert the 2 clips on the front side to the holes of the floor console with the ashtray/lighter door open as shown in Figure 8.

NOTE:
Insert the clips securely until they click.

b) Insert the 2 clips on the rear side to the holes of the floor console.

NOTE:
- Follow the working order properly. Otherwise, clips may not fit in the holes.
- Install the ashtray/lighter taking care not to catch the ashtray/lighter harness.







2. Install the console upper panel. (Figure 9.)

NOTE:
Insert the clips securely until they click.

3. Install the rubber tray.

FUNCTIONAL CHECKS:
Verify Ashtray/Lighter Operation.
1. Check that the ashtray/lighter door opens and closes properly.
2. Check that the cigarette lighter operates.
3. Check that the lighter illumination bulb lights.
