Exhaust Pipe: Service and Repair

Removal & Installation and Disassembly & Reassembly





1. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH (4WD DRIVE TYPE)
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the front door scuff plate RH.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.





2. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD RH (4WD DRIVE TYPE)
a. Remove the clip and cowl side trim board.





3. REMOVE REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH (4WD DRIVE TYPE)
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the rear door scuff plate RH.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.





4. REMOVE CENTER PILLAR GARNISH LOWER RH (4WD DRIVE TYPE)
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the center garnish lower RH.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

5. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSY RH (4WD DRIVE TYPE)
6. REMOVE OXYGEN SENSOR (2WD DRIVE TYPE)





a. Remove a clip and tear off the floor mat.
b. Disconnect a oxygen sensor connector.





c. Remove the oxygen sensor.
7. REMOVE OXYGEN SENSOR (4WD DRIVE TYPE)





a. Remove the oxygen sensor connector as shown in the illustration.





b. Remove the oxygen sensor.
8. REMOVE TAIL PIPE ASSY (2WD DRIVE TYPE)
a. Remove the tail pipe assy with 2 bolts and 2 springs.
9. REMOVE TAIL PIPE ASSY (4WD DRIVE TYPE)
a. Remove a bolt and clamp.
b. Remove the tail pipe and gasket.
10. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY CENTER (4WD DRIVE TYPE)
a. Remove the exhaust pipe assy center with 2 bolts and 2 springs.





11. REMOVE FLOOR PANEL BRACE FRONT (2WD DRIVE TYPE)
a. Remove 2 nuts and the front floor panel brace front.
12. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY FRONT
a. Remove the exhaust pipe front.
13. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY FRONT
a. Using a vernier calipers, measure the free length of the compression spring.
Free length: 43 mm (1.693 inch)

HINT: It the free length is not as specified, replace the compression spring.

b. Install a new gasket on the exhaust manifold.
c. Install the exhaust pipe front with 2 bolts and 2 springs.
Torque: 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)
14. INSTALL FLOOR PANEL BRACE FRONT (2WD DRIVE TYPE)
a. Install the front panel brace front with 2 nuts.
Torque: 30 Nm (302 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.)
15. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY CENTER (4WD DRIVE TYPE)
a. Using a vernier calipers, measure the free length of the compression spring.
Free length: 40 mm (1.575 inch)

HINT: If the free length is not as specified, replace the compression spring.

b. Install a new gasket on the exhaust pipe assy front.
c. Install the exhaust pipe assy center with 2 bolts and 2 springs.
Torque: 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)
16. INSTALL TAIL PIPE ASSY (2WD DRIVE TYPE)
a. Using a vernier calipers, measure the free length of the compression spring.
Free length: 40 mm (1.575 inch)

HINT: If the free length is not as specified, replace the compression spring.

1 Install a new gasket on the exhaust pipe front.
2 Install the exhaust tail pipe with 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque: 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)





17. INSTALL TAIL PIPE ASSY (4WD DRIVE TYPE)
a. Install the tail pipe assy with a bolt as shown in the illustration.
Torque: 32 Nm (330 kgf-cm, 24 ft. lbs.)
18. INSTALL OXYGEN SENSOR
a. Install oxygen sensor to exhaust pipe front.
Torque: 44 Nm (450 kgf-cm, 33 ft. lbs.)








b. Connect the oxygen sensor connector.

HINT: After installing oxygen sensor, check that sensor wire is not twisted. If it is twisted, remove the oxygen sensor and reinstall it.

19. CHECK EXHAUST GAS LEAK
