INTRODUCTION:
When replacing the HVAC compressor for any reason, it is critical to adjust the amount of oil in the replacement compressor before installation on the vehicle. Failure to adjust the amount of oil in the compressor can lead to decreased A/C performance. Follow the procedures listed below to set the correct amount of oil in the replacement HVAC compressor.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1. Check for debris in the discharge port of the compressor.
- If NO debris is found, only replacement of the compressor is necessary.
- If debris IS found, replacement of the compressor AND cooler dryer is necessary.
2. Inspect and adjust compressor oil.
A. Gradually discharge inert gas (helium) from the service valve of the new replacement compressor.
B. Look at the Name Plate on the production compressor and refer to Figure 3 and the chart to determine the amount of oil to drain from the new replacement compressor before installation.
NOTE
- Observe the precautions on the cooler removal/installation procedures when checking the amount of compressor oil.
- Because compressor oil remains in the refrigerant lines of the vehicle, if a NEW compressor is installed without removing additional oil, total oil volume will be excessive. This condition may prevent heat exchange in the refrigerant cycles and cause refrigerant failure and/or abnormal vibration.
- If any compressor oil other than ND-11 is used, compressor motor insulation performance may be decreased and may result in electric leakage.
NOTE:
Issue of this Technical Service Bulletin is to ensure that proper repair information is available. IT DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN AUTHORIZATION FOR REPAIR. Normal provisions of the formal warranty policy, as applicable, will apply.
