Introduction

Under certain conditions, some 2003 - 2004 model year Celica vehicles may exhibit M.I.L. "ON" with DTC P0300 (Random Misfire) and/or P030 # (Single Cylinder Misfire). The Engine Control Module (ECM) (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM) logic has been modified to correct this condition.

^ 2003 - 2004 model year Celica vehicles equipped with 1ZZ-FE engine and manual transmission produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VIN shown below.

Applicable Warranty*:

This repair is covered under the Toyota Specified Major Emission Control Component Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 96 months or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

1. Should a M.I.L. "ON" condition with DTC P0300 and/or P030 # be encountered, perform diagnostic procedures as described in the Technical Information System (TIS) 2003 or 2004 model year Celica Repair Manual: Diagnostics: Engine (1ZZ-FE): P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected (Celica).





2. If the problem source cannot be identified after checking all affected areas according to TIS, the cause may be an ECM (PCM) logic malfunction. In this case, replace the ECM (PCM) with the updated part according to TIS:
