Introduction
Some 2003 - 2005 model year Corolla vehicles may experience a brake squeaking noise when backing up and applying the brakes. To reduce this noise, an additional amount of anti-squeal grease has been added during assembly.

^ 2003 - 2004 model year Corolla vehicles.
^ 2005 model year Corolla vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

Repair Procedure
1. Remove inner and outer front brake pads following the procedures outlined in the Technical Information System (TIS), 2003 - 2005 model year Corolla Repair Manual:
Front Brake: Overhaul.
2. Replace or resurface front disc rotors with the On-Car Brake Lathe according to the applicable repair manual to within serviceable limits.
Minimum Thickness: 23 mm (0.91 in.)
3. Add anti-squeal grease to the back of each of the inner and outer replacement brake pads as shown.
4. Install anti-squeal shim No.1 to the replacement pads and apply anti-squeal grease in the same pattern as step 3.
NOTE:
^ It is necessary to apply anti-squeal grease to both inner and outer brake pads.
^ Do not wipe off anti-squeal grease if it overflows from the slits in the anti-squeal shim.
5. Install anti-squeal shim No. 2 on the brake pads.

6. Install the front disc brake pads and the front anti-squeal kit assembly on the vehicle.
7. Perform road test.
