Introduction

Some 2004 model year Solara vehicles may exhibit a M.I.L. "ON" condition with one of the following DTCs:

^ P0748 (Pressure Control Solenoid "A" Electrical- SL1 Solenoid)

^ P0798 (Pressure Control Solenoid "C" Electrical - SL3 Solenoid)

^ P0985 (Shift Solenoid "E" Control Circuit Low - SR Solenoid)

^ P0986 (Shift Solenoid "E" Control Circuit High - SR Solenoid)

One of these codes may be stored as a result of Engine Control Module or ECM (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM) manufacturing issues. Replacement of the ECM (PCM) will correct this condition.

^ 2004 model year Solara vehicles equipped with 3MZ-FE engines produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VIN shown below.

Applicable Warranty:

This repair is covered under the Toyota Specified Major Emission Control Component Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 96 months or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

1. Follow repair manual diagnostics for applicable DTC (P0748, P0798, P0985 or P0986). Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) 2004 model year Solara Repair Manual: Diagnostics: SFI system: P0748 or P0798 or P0985 or P0986.

2. If circuit tests OK per repair manual - replace the ECM (PCM).

NOTE:
Following ECM (PCM) replacement, the vehicle will not start until the ECM (PCM) Communication ID Registration is completed. To register the ECM (PCM) Communication ID, refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) 2004 model year Solara Repair Manual: Diagnostics: Engine Immobilizer System: Registration: ECU Communication ID Registration.
