INTRODUCTION:






Some customers may complain of a thump or clunk noise coming from the rear suspension when traveling over bumps or rough road surfaces at steady speeds. Both the left and right rear upper strut supports have been changed to improve this noise condition.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 2005 - 2006 model year Avalon vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:






1. Conduct a road test to verify the noise condition.
2. Remove and replace both rear upper supports and both rear shock absorbers by following the procedures in ETAS:
- 2005 model year Avalon Repair Manual: Rear Suspension: Rear Shock Absorber With Coil Spring.
- 2006 model year Avalon Repair Manual: Suspension: Rear Shock Absorber With Coil Spring.

3. Correct and adjust the rear wheel alignment after replacing the rear upper supports.
Follow the procedure on ETAS:
- 2005 model year Avalon Repair Manual: Rear Suspension: Rear Wheel Alignment.
- 2006 model year Avalon Repair Manual: Suspension: Rear Wheel Alignment.
